What is "Cosmetic Gynecology"?

Cosmetic Gynecology is a general term that refers to the surgical and non-surgical enhancement of the internal and external female genital areas.  Although the term "cosmetic" is routinely used to describe these procedures, at Women's Surgery & Aesthetics Center we believe that "restorative" is a more appropriate term.  We feel this way because various normal developmental and physiologic processes,  cultural practices, obstetrical trauma and other traumatic events can all lead to changes and differences in the internal and external female genital organs that can cause pain, disfigurement, overgrowth, loosening, sagging, diminished sexual response, decreased sensitivity and unnecessary aversion to sexual activity.  Urinary and fecal incontinence are also some of the more common unfortunate results of obstetrical trauma and other causes.  These conditions can cause extreme social embarrassment that may cause some women to be afraid to even leave the house or participate in social activities.  There are several procedures and treatments available at Women's Surgery & Aesthetics Center that can restore the internal and external female genitalia to a form and function that may lead to decreased pain with physical and sexual activity, increased sensation with intimacy and improved body image and self confidence.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty s a term that refers to surgical and non-surgical reduction in the size and improvement in the shape of the labia minora or "lips" of the vagina.  Exaggerated response of the labial tissues to hormones, obstetrical trauma, cultural practices, and sexual trauma are just some of the reasons why some women may have larger, asymmetrical, disfigured or other anomalies of the labia minora.  These differences may lead to pain with exercise or intimacy.  They may cause issues with body image or aversion to sexual activity and intimacy.

Am I a Candidate?

Ideal candidates should be in good health and have realistic expectations about their results. While labiaplasty can improve the appearance of the labia, it is important to remember that labial appearance does vary among women. Labiaplasty is best suited for women who experience pain, discomfort, or poor hygiene due to enlarged labia minora. However, women with a significantly altered labial appearance following childbirth can benefit from this procedure. Women with labial hypertrophy may identify with one or more of the following:
  • Labia minora are visible even when your legs are together
  • Discomfort during intercourse
  • Irritation during exercise
  • Difficulty maintaining proper hygiene

Labiaplasty surgery can range any where from $3000 to $4000 however, this does not include the cost of anesthesia or any associated facility charges. Labiaplasty is not covered by most insurance plans.  However, we do have several payment options available such as Care Credit.
